The best thing a small business can do to gain new customers is called relationships. Stop thinking in terms of making sales and start thinking in terms of making relationships. Relationships means you greet customers by name, know things about them, have a fix on their tastes, and possibly even like them. It's not easy, but it is far easier for you than for The Home Depot, I promise you. Do absolutely everything you can to cultivate relationships instead of merely making sales, and you'll soon see that you have a major competitive advantage over any superstore.
